General Investigations Team (GIT)

The General Investigations Unit is made up of seven detectives and one sergeant. The unit is responsible for handling felonies involving crimes against persons and property crimes in unincorporated Contra Costa County. The unit investigates all missing persons, to include at-risk and runaway juveniles. The unit is also responsible for the processing of misdemeanor complaints from unincorporated areas and the contract cities of Orinda, Lafayette, and Danville.
 

Special Investigations Unit (SIU)

The Special Investigations Unit is comprised of the Narcotics Unit and the Vice Unit. The Special Investigations Unit consists of four detectives and one sergeant.

The Narcotics Unit is responsible for the investigating drug cases, obtaining criminal complaints on drug arrest cases, and responding to community complaints of suspected drug activity and formulating an appropriate response

The Vice Unit is responsible for the investigation of gambling, prostitution, human trafficking, and Alcoholic Beverage Control violations. The unit also conducts background investigations for licenses and permits issued by the Sheriff's Office. The Vice Unit also respond to community complaints concerning suspected vice-related crimes and initiating an appropriate response.
 

Special Victims Unit (SVU)

The Special Victims Unit is comprised of four elements: Sexual Assault/Child Abuse, High Tech Crimes, Domestic Violence/Elder Abuse, and Sex/Arson Registration. SVU is staffed by nine detectives and one sergeant, who are responsible for all felony sexual assault cases, felony child abuse cases, internet crimes against children cases, abductions, computer crimes, domestic violence, and elder abuse.

One of the assigned detectives is also responsible for monitoring people required to register as a sex and/or arson offender per California Penal Code 290. This detective monitors the offender, investigates non-compliant registrants, and conducts public notifications when deemed necessary for public safety.
 

Homicide Unit

The Homicide Unit is made up of four detectives and one sergeant. The unit handles homicides, officer-involved incidents, and in-custody deaths. The unit is responsible for cases in unincorporated Contra Costa County and the contract cities of Orinda,  Lafayette, and Danville. The Homicide Unit can be reached at (925) 313-2600.
