Costa County's 750 square miles are ideally located in the San Francisco
Bay Area. It has a temperate climate, beautiful geographical setting and
shares in California's continuing growth.
The County is comprised of varied suburban, industrial,
agricultural and port areas. Over 1,200,000 people reside in the County, and
enjoy outdoor recreational facilities ranging from boating, water skiing,
fishing in the Bay and Delta to hiking, horseback riding and camping in
Mt. Diablo State Park. Cultural resources include numerous local theaters,
art and music centers, as well as the vast cultural and recreational
opportunities of San Francisco, Oakland, and the East Bay. Colleges
include St. Mary's and John F. Kennedy University, the Contra Costa
Extension of California State University Hayward, as well as three
community colleges: Diablo Valley College, Los Medanos College, and Contra
Costa College. The U.C. Berkeley campus is also within an hour's drive from
the County Seat of Martinez.
