Sheriff’s Biography

Photo of Warren E. Rupf, Sheriff of Contra Costa CountySheriff Warren E. Rupf has been with the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff for over forty years. He is currently the longest serving member of the agency. He has served at virtually every rank, in every assignment, beginning in 1965. Sheriff Rupf celebrated his 40th anniversary in November 2005.

Sheriff Rupf is also Director of both the Saint Mary’s College Scholarship Fund and the Micki Rainey Scholarship Fund.  Past Board of Directors memberships include Suicide and Crisis Intervention as well as the Contra Costa County Fair.  He is an active supporter of the Boy Scouts of America.

Education/Military Experience

  • Graduate of FBI National Academy and National Executive Institute

  • Associate of Arts Degree from Diablo Valley College, Pleasant Hill, California

  • United States Marine Corps Service, 1961-65

Sheriff Rupf is a lifelong resident of Contra Costa County, and currently resides in Martinez with his wife, Carole.
