The Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Extradition Detail carries out the extradition of fugitives from justice. Two deputies are assigned to the Fugitive Extradition Detail and are supported by deputies assigned to the Civil Unit and Outstanding Warrant Management Unit. Fugitive extradition entails the legal and physical process involved in the return of fugitives arrested out-of-state who are wanted in Contra Costa County for prosecution on criminal charges. In addition, the Fugitive Extradition Detail is also responsible for rendering to out-of-state agencies fugitives arrested in Contra Costa County who are wanted for prosecution by other agencies. Currently, 13 local police agencies within Contra Costa County contract with the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Extradition Detail for extradition services.
