The Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services (OES) is responsible for
disaster preparedness, response and recovery planning for the County. OES
coordinates information, resources and priorities among County agencies,
local governments and special districts. OES serves as a link between the
Governor's Office of Emergency Services and the County's cities and
special districts.
In the event of an emergency or disaster, OES coordinates
communications and resources among responding agencies, and facilitates
cost-recovery coordination with state and federal agencies.

Mutual Aid
Mutual Aid is responsible for planning and coordinating all activities
involving the Sheriff's Emergency Services Program as it applies to Law
Enforcement Mutual aid and reports directly to the Office of Emergency
Services Commander. It is distinguished from other Planner classifications
in that it deals strictly with law enforcement emergency planning and
serves as a liaison with other government agencies involved in the
planning for Emergency Response.
Typical Tasks
Plans and conducts technical studies and analysis of potential
emergencies or disasters within the County. Writes recommendations and
prepares reports on the basis of evaluated data and information. Meets
with County, District, City and law enforcement officials, as well as
private citizens in the formation of plans for the mobilization of
manpower and materials for use during times of emergency. Makes public
presentations concerning earthquake preparedness, hazardous materials and
chemical spills. Prepares drafts of correspondence and reports.
Coordinates and develops agency supporting plans to the Office of
Emergency Services plan. Develops audio, visual and other training aids.
Presents training to law enforcement personnel. Acts as liaison with other
agencies for Sheriff during emergencies. Acts as Department specialist and
resource center for all issues involving hazardous materials
transportation, regulation packaging and labeling. Acts as Mutual Aid
Coordinator for any in-County request for mutual aid, and makes all
preparations for potential escalations to Region II assistance.
