The Communications Center provides dispatching services
for the Office of the Sheriff as well as neighboring agencies and cities
that contract for such services: County Animal Control, Danville,
Lafayette, Los Medanos College, Moraga, Pittsburg, Oakley, Orinda, Rio
Vista and San Ramon. It is also the answering point for all 9-1-1 calls
originating from these cities as well as all the residents of
unincorporated Contra Costa County.
This emergency hotline serves a population of nearly
400,000 within a service area of 600 square miles.

- Provide the critical link between the citizen requesting help
and the agency member responding.

Records personnel receive and store crime and incident
records for the Sheriff’s Office as well as police service contract
cities. The Unit is also responsible for:

Providing information and copies of records and
warrants to authorized persons in compliance with local, State and
Federal laws.

Filing domestic violence, civil harassment and
other restraining orders.

Maintaining an automated file of warrants issued by
the courts in the County.

Making entries and inquiries into automated criminal
databases.

Compiling and reporting statistical information.
-
Issuing business licenses and occupational permits as
authorized by County Ordinance, i.e. Bingo, Massage, Fortune Telling,
Card Rooms, Peddling and Solicitation.

The Civil Unit is responsible for:
-
Receives civil processes from the courts. (The
Sheriff's Office does not perform process serving for the general
public - individuals seeking assistance in this area should contact a
private process server) -
Performs certain civil actions, including service of
court documents, evictions and seizure of property.

Collects and disburses funds associated with civil
actions.
-
Is responsible for the extradition of persons wanted
by the county who are arrested in other states.

Information and Network Services
This particular unit is responsible for providing
technical support and advice to the Office of the Sheriff. It manages all
of the Department’s computerized systems.
Fleet Services
Personnel in this unit coordinate the service and
replacement of all of the vehicles, vessels and related equipment for the
Office of the Sheriff. A close relationship is maintained with the
County’s General Services Department regarding vehicle purchasing and
maintenance.
