How do I apply to become a deputy sheriff?

What are the minimum qualifications?
There are minimum qualifications for applying for police jobs in CA in regards to your license, education level, age, citizenship, vision, hearing, and physical abilities.
When it comes to your license, you need a valid California Motor Vehicle Operators License at the time of appointment. You will also need to possess a US high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency, or California high school proficiency certificate to meet the education requirement. You should be at least 21 years of age, but there is no maximum age that could prevent you from qualifying. You will need to be a United States Citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship a minimum of one year ago.
When it comes to physical abilities, you will need to have either 20/100 uncorrected for each eye or have your vision corrected to 20/30 for each eye. For hearing, you must not have suffered a hearing loss of over 25 decibels in the 500, 1000, and 2000 frequency ranges for each ear. You will also need to be able to meet such health standards established by the County Medical Consultant.
How long is the academy?
If you're interested in police jobs in CA, you will need to attend the academy for training. This training takes place over the course of 26 weeks.
